Australian singer-songwriter and Eurovision star Kate Miller-Heidke announces her first UK show in 10 years – a special one-off intimate, stripped-back performance at Bush Hall in London on Thursday 1 May. With special guest, acclaimed fellow-Australian singer-songwriter Georgia Mooney. Kate Miller-Heidke is an award-winning singer-songwriter who traverses the worlds of pop, folk, opera and musical theatre. She has performed on stages as varied as Coachella, the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, the English National Opera, the New York Metropolitan Opera, the Eurovision Song Contest, the Sydney Opera House, and some very dodgy pubs. UK audiences may know her best from her memorable performance as Australia’s representative at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2019, where she sang her original song ‘Zero Gravity’ while perched on top of a 7-metre bendy pole. Kate’s heartfelt performance and out-of-this world staging won her 1st place in her semi-final, a top ten placing in the Grand Final, and the coveted Marcel Bezançon Award for Artistic Achievement. But she is more than just a lady on a stick. She has released five acclaimed Australian top-10 indie-pop albums. She is a Coach on the Channel 7 series The Voice Australia. She is an award-winning songwriter, she is the Queen of Woodford (Australia’s biggest folk festival), she is a highly lauded musical theatre composer, and she is a committed dabbler in the dark art of Contemporary Opera. She is 100% a natural blonde. She is also a born storyteller. Her music is influenced by the narrative traditions of folk, the drama of opera, and the great singer-songwriters of pop. She weaves tales of humour and pain, intimacy and grandeur, joy and regret, childhood and ghosts. The last day of school, and the last day on earth. Where joy is zero gravity, and love is like vertigo. With characters who expand within us to live beyond the confines of their four minutes - James being bullied in the school yard. Sarah’s gone missing from the festival. Muriel is just finding out she’s amazing. And behind them all is Kate, reaching out to connect with the audience, with songs and stories borne out of the many worlds and many disciplines she has travelled. Sung in a voice like no other. This special, intimate show will be a celebration of songs old and new, of voice, storytelling, emotion, humour, and music that transports and transcends. Of discovering anew each night the transformative connection between the performer and the audience. (The bendy poles from Eurovision will be there emotionally and spiritually, but not physically.) Kate will be playing her greatest hits and most beloved pop songs, as well as performing tracks from her original musicals (including Muriel’s Wedding The Musical, with its UK premiere at The Curve Theatre, Leicester in April), playing some unexpected covers, road-testing some brand new songs, taking requests for hidden gems from her back catalogue, and telling stories from across her varied career. ___ "Exceptional! Kate Miller-Heidke is an amazing talent. Ninety minutes of sparkle and shine, featuring songs from her five studio albums, original musicals, a couple of covers for good measure, and the stories behind the songs.” - Hi Fi Way “Songs of introspection, self-admission and defiance. Many take us to dark places of personal regret and remorse, but others punch skywards with iron-fisted resolve. A lifetime of experiences squeezed into one scintillating show... not to be missed.” - InReview “A vibrant celebration of music, storytelling, emotion, and humour—an immersive experience that forged a deep connection between the artist and the audience.” - Forte Magazine “Indie-pop for adults … smart, challenging and mature pop music.” – Rolling Stone “The finest vocals in Australian music” - The Border Mail “Like Enya on crystal meth” - Benjamin Law, author/screenwriter “You sound like a yodelling ambulance” - Kate’s father-in-law “If windscreen wipers could sing...’ - Graham Norton “DOUZE POINTS!” - Poland, Romania
